Sept 9, 2010

For Immediate Release:

Canada's Biggest Blues Tour Launches

The Blues is alive and well in Canada. For the fifth consecutive year an acoustic roots-blues show is among the country's most in demand acts. The National Steel Blues Tour, featuring veteran bluesman-songster Doc MacLean, kicked off it's nine province run with a shake down show in Picton, ON, on Wednesday night. The Tour continues with some 90 shows scheduled over the next 100 days.

"There's a real passion for this music all across Canada," said MacLean, adding "I don't think the blues has ever been more popular." MacLean, who has been called "an audio version of the movie Sin City," is enthusiastic about his continuing adventures in Canada. This year's Tour, "Darker Ways," is focusing on intimate performances in small places. "It's a big, big tour of small," MacLean points out. "I get to play all the little places— places that sometimes get lost in the folds of the map." Recalling how he first hitched his way across Canada with a cardboard guitar case some forty years ago, MacLean is philosophical about driving it in his Lincoln today. "If I lose a wheel out there, I sure know how to flag a ride!"

True to its name, the Tour is not only national in scope, but will feature Doc's vintage National guitars. Fans can check these out up close as he conducts a series of pre-show masterclasses and workshops at select Long & McQuade stores across the country.
